10 tips for remodeling your bathroom

specchio-articolo

To remodel a bathroom we need to take into consideration a range of issues, from plants to sanitary wares, from flooring to accessories, up to any requests for permits.

Notice of commencement of work

It is not always necessary to ask for a permission to remodel the bathroom. In case the surface remains the same and no change is made to the installations, you don’t need to define a project and, accordingly, you won’t need to ask for any authorization. Otherwise, it should be submitted a sworn notice of commencement of work, such as C.I.L.A.

Certified notice of commencement of work

If your bathroom remodeling incorporates structural parts, it should be given a S.C.I.A., a certified notice of commencement of work. These documents must include the signature of a qualified technician, i.e. an architect, an engineer or a surveyor.

Bathroom makeover

In case of a complete bathroom makeover, you have to dismantle the old items. Thus, you must consider also this phase. Companies must remove floors, coverings, sanitary wares and all the other elements expected for the project. To achieve the desired aesthetic and economic results, it should be selected a firm that is specialized in bathroom makeovers, in order to take charge of the subsequent disposal of the material, which arise from the dismantlement.

Bathroom plumbing

If you must work on a hydraulic system, it would be good to choose the best pipes available in today’s market. The PE polyethylene tubes are, for example, very resistant to shocks. They are strong enough to resist to the continuous contact with hot water and detergents and they prevent condensation. They are lightweight and are available in different diameters, lengths and types of fittings. It is therefore the most recommendable solution.

Floor systems

In the bathroom there are two systems: the hydraulic and electric one. If you don’t want to fill the walls of technical diagrams, you can adopt the solution of floor systems. All the pipelines are laid on the floor, by only using the lower end of the walls. This solution can be only adopted when a total renovation of the bathroom is expected.

Indeed, to install floor systems you need to completely remove coverings and substrates.

Bathroom floors

If you really want to renew the look of the bathroom, you can change the floors without removing tiles that have been already installed. You just need to overlay the new floor to the old one. The only restriction is the choice of floor type, which must be a stoneware of about 2/3 millimeters thick.

Bathroom coverings

Bathroom wall coverings should be resistant, waterproof and washable. One of the best materials is certainly ceramics. In case of restructuring, you can get great results by using waterproofing products that can be directly sticked on tiles. To adopt this trick, the original bathroom tiles need to be perfectly intact.

Sanitary wares: aesthetics and functionality

Before proceeding with the bathroom remodel, you have to keep in mind which are the sanitary wares you want to install. When you design the makeover of your bathroom, you should consider both the aesthetic and the functional aspects. But now, the question is: do I want to give a classic or a modern look to my bathroom? The style you choose determines the choice of the other elements of the bathroom, from the sink to the toilet. To reduce the intervention to a minimum, we suggest to choose between a range of sanitary wares that are consistent with the already existing predispositions. It is also essential to implement the waterproofing at the level of the shower tray or bath.

Indeed, these are the most sensitive points through which water seepages occur, with the consequent likelihood of water spots forming. That is why it is good to ask for the installation of a waterproofing product, such as resins, liquid membranes or PVC sheets to be applied under the shower tray and along the walls up to a maximum of 1, 80 meters height.

Bidet and vase

Toilet and bidet should be located one beside the other. For this type of placement is necessary a 120 cm space. If, for example, it has been decided to install a bathtub, which reduced the space available, you can choose smaller sanitay wares. The standard sizes correspond to 55-57 cm, but toilet and smaller vessels are also available in 45-50 cm size. If you choose this kind of sanitary wares, you can save about 12 cm and you can better organize the space.

Bathroom furniture

It is time to talk about bathroom furniture, that includes all the pieces of furniture, mirrors and every other element and accessory that is part of the list of items needed to complete the room, from shower mats to shower curtains, from towel rail to soap dish.
Finally, the lighting has to be coordinated with the rest of the furniture, from ceiling light to chandeliers, up to LEDs that save energy and they can be installed at the level of mirrors.
